listening to albums

Hello.

I need your help, and you are very helpful.

I recently wished for a pair of good headphones so that I could—by completely shifting gears from the visual to the aural—take more of a break from my school work. My wish was granted! And now I need your help. Your help is very important to me. And you are very helpful.

At least that’s what I’ve heard. People are always telling me how helpful you are. Yes they are.

If you had a nice pair of headphones, and wanted to listen to an album (yes, an album, from beginning to end), which album would you listen to, and why?

Please leave your suggestion(s) in the comments section.

Thanks for your help.

“OK Computer” is probably the most obvious choice.

For going to bed: Aphex Twin’s “Ambient Works v. 2.”

That is a very good question that I normally would have a very hard time answering because I listen to an album approximately once every 6-9 months.

In this case I have an answer because this evening I too needed some sort of aural break from schoolwork. Normally my solution is to listen to a football, hockey, or basketball broadcast, but tonight I was thwarted the Nuggets getting blown out.

In order to avoid listening to any more of a depressing defeat, I turned to my computer’s very limited selection of music and picked Radiohead’s In Rainbows.

I really have no business giving anyone advice about anything dealing with music, but I can say that I listened to most of the album and my brain was less unhappy afterwards.

Hello friend. This year is the 10th anniversary of Neutral Milk Hotel’s In the Aeroplane Over the Sea. It’s been on repeat in my head for the past two months, maybe it’d work through headphones too?

I would go for Platinum All Time Favorites from the Sesame Street cast. Track 14 (“Labamba” by The Count featuring The Singing, Dancing Lambs) is off the hook. The haunting “Put Down the Duckie” with Ernie featuring Hoots the Owl is also a great song. However, the best track may be the deeply reflective “Elmo’s Song” by Elmo featuring Snuffleupagus (R.I.P) and Big Bird. I think it was Snuf’s last recording before his demise. There is a rumor that his lable Trunk Records will release some never before heard tracks later this year, but that could be all hype.

I’m on a Green Day kick lately and have come to believe that “American Idiot” is to Generation Y what “London Calling” was for me – inspirational, life affirming, opera-like, brilliant from start to finish and most importantly, a rocking fucking album. That is my suggestion.
    See you Friday!

Etta James Rocks the House. Because she just does.

Good by Morphine. Because it just is.

    yup.

You would want to listen to the two Talking Heads records that you haven’t gotten to yet, because they’re amazing. What kind of headphones did you pick up?
